Activities which include walking are graded into 5 categories based on fitness level needed for that activity. These are the grades determined by the Irish National Trails Office. Please confirm you have attained that level of fitness before booking an activity.
1 Multi Access
Flat smooth trails suitable for all people, including those with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, older people, visually impaired and those on crutches.
Generally flat trails with a smooth surfaces and some gentle slopes or shallow steps. Generally suitable for family groups including children and the elderly. Footwear must be enclosed outdoor footwear.
These may have some climbs and an uneven surface where the going is rough underfoot with some obstacles such as protruding roots, rocks etc. They are appropriate for people with a moderate level of fitness and some walking experience. Specific outdoor walking footwear and clothing is recommended.
Physically demanding trails which have some steep climbs for long periods (over 1 hour) while the going underfoot can be extremely rough including many obstacles. Suitable for people used to walking on rough ground and with a high level of fitness. Outdoor walking footwear and clothing is required.
5 Very Difficult
These routes are mainly in remote upland areas. They typically include steep slopes and very variable and rough underfoot conditions on trails which may be indistinct. Suitable only for very fit and competent mountain walkers with experience. Specific outdoor walking footwear and clothing required.
Option to add extra activities to the trip
Arrive into Cork to collect your hire car. Stay in a great house which has been converted into a 4 star hotel, with an option to play a round of golf. Drive to Cobh for a guided tour of Fota House and Gardens. Take a guided walk around the streets of Cobh, the Titanic's last port of call. Option to visit the Titanic Centre, Spike Island or the Distillery in Midleton.The choice of activity is yours.
Drive to Killarney to your hotel. Enjoy a guided tour of Muckross House the stroll around its splendid gardens. Option to take a horse drawn Jaunting Car to Ross Castle on the edge of the Lakes of Killarney or a boat trip on the Lakes.
Choose between two spectacular scenic drives. The Ring of Kerry on the Iveragh peneinsula is Ireland's best known drive while the Beara Peninsula is equally beautiful but less well known. Each offers you a chance to visit a tropical garden on the Atlantic coast. Along the Beara route you can visit Derreen Garden, Ewe Garden or stay in Bantry in a georgian house hotel.
Visit Bantry House and Gardens which overlooking the bay for a guided tour. In the afternoon drive to a georgain house hotel along un-spoilt roads to Mallow. Call to Future Forests garden centre and Gougane Barra on the way.
Drive from Cork to Blarney in the morning to visit the famous Blarney Castle to take a guided tour of Blarney House and admire its wonderful gardens Stay in a grand old House in North Cork where your surroundings tell of the history of the area. Return to Cork for your afternoon flight home
