Superior Hotels in Historical buildings or grand houses, in beautiful locations and with excellent service.Some have a gym and/or pool attached. Please advise us if this is essential to you or if you wish to have a spa session booked for you. In many cases they have a well known restaurant attached. Please advise us if you would like a meal booked.
This type of property could be a hotel without the charm of the superior property or be a Bed and Breakfast in a family home. This is the basic rate for all packages and the superior accommodation is charged at a higher rate.
In some places and for larger numbers of people we can arrange self-catering. For walkers we can offer camping pods on a farm adjacent to a walking route or for those who would like more comfort the superior self catering property can be booked with breakfast included, often in scenic areas.
Activities which include walking are graded into 5 categories based on fitness level needed for that activity. These are the grades determined by the Irish National Trails Office. Please confirm you have attained that level of fitness before booking an activity.
1 Multi Access
Flat smooth trails suitable for all people, including those with reduced mobility, wheelchair users, older people, visually impaired and those on crutches.
Generally flat trails with a smooth surfaces and some gentle slopes or shallow steps. Generally suitable for family groups including children and the elderly. Footwear must be enclosed outdoor footwear.
These may have some climbs and an uneven surface where the going is rough underfoot with some obstacles such as protruding roots, rocks etc. They are appropriate for people with a moderate level of fitness and some walking experience. Specific outdoor walking footwear and clothing is recommended.
Physically demanding trails which have some steep climbs for long periods (over 1 hour) while the going underfoot can be extremely rough including many obstacles. Suitable for people used to walking on rough ground and with a high level of fitness. Outdoor walking footwear and clothing is required.
5 Very Difficult
These routes are mainly in remote upland areas. They typically include steep slopes and very variable and rough underfoot conditions on trails which may be indistinct. Suitable only for very fit and competent mountain walkers with experience. Specific outdoor walking footwear and clothing required.
Arrive Cork City am and collect your hire car then drive to Kinsale for lunch. Take an afternoon Guided Walk along the Atlantic coast near Kinsale. Drive to West Cork to your hotel base near Bantry for the next two nights. Fitness level 2 required for this walk.
Drive to meet your guide at the spectacular Sheep’s Head Peninsula, a European Destination of Excellence, and enjoy a day long guided walk. Return to your hotel near Bantry at the end of the day. Fitness Level 3 required for this walk.
Climb a Mountain in Kerry – Take a guided walk climbing from Torc Waterfall up Torc Mountain which overlooks the famous Lakes of Killarney. This has an ascent of 500m, with a length of 7.5km taking about 3-4 hours and giving spectacular views of the Lakes. Fitness level 3-4. You can also take a self guided walk through the unspoilt valley known as the Gap of Dunloe. We can organise a boat trip across the Lakes of Killarney through the Meeting of the Waters as far as Lord Brandon’s cottage. The route through the valley is 10-15 km and you can then walk the further 5km back to Killarney or take a mini bus.
Depending on your flights you may have time to drive the Slea Head Route from Dingle, where there are many local walks. Allow 3 hours drive from Dingle to Cork or Shannon airport. Option to add an extra day to this trip and climb Carrauntoohill, Ireland’s highest mountain, with an extra charge for a guide. In the MacGillycuddy Reeks range in Kerry and standing at 1,034m above sea level, a climb of this mountain will take a full day. This climb can only be done when you have taken an easier walk in the area on a previous day.
